Bury RUFC 3’s got the league season of to a start on a rainy afternoon vs visitors Oldham 3’s the game started brightly for Bury with Oldham very rarely making it inside 3 the Bury half bad discipline from the visitors led to a series of penalties being awarded to the Home side, Bury continued to press Oldham and a series of scrums in the Oldham 22 led to Kieron Morris picking from the back of the scrum to go just to the left of the post and score Bury’s 1st try of the season successfully converted by Boardman taking the first half score at 7-0 to Bury.
Just after the re-start a rare Scrum for Oldham in the Bury 22 led to a pick from the Oldham No.8 to drive down the blind side and score a try with no conversion. A few mins after the re-start a horrible mark on the game with Flanker Nathan Garnett making a great tackle and try to stand up as an Oldham player fell on his leg resulting in a broken Tibula.
The game had to be moved to the 1st Team pitch and not long after the restart Oldham would receive a penalty just outside the Bury 22 and the Oldham number 10 was successful this time and Oldham took the lead for the first time in the game. Bury would the exert another period of pressure on Oldham with centre Jay Hardman going over the line but disallowed for an apparent forward pass. A few minutes later Bury would come close again after a series of penalties a quick tap taking the ball close to the Oldham line only to be pulled back for not taking the penalty on the Mark so instead Bury opted to go for the posts with Boardman again successfully putting it between the posts for Bury to take the lead back by 1 point. Oldham would again come back at Bury and there would again be a series of penalties given to Oldham one in front of the posts would seal the games fate and Oldham took the points 10-14.
