Bowden U11s 14 - Bury U11s 35

Bury travelled to Clay Lane for a hastily re-arranged fixture against Bowden, and came away with their unbeaten record intact following a hard-fought game against a well-drilled Bowden side.

Bury dominated the early possession and after about 5 minutes, Alex Bolton picked the ball up 15 metres out and jinked his way past a number of defenders to score, Xavier Jacques converting.
Bury continued to dominate possession and territory and slowly managed to gain the upper hand against a strong Bowden pack in the scrum. On 12 minutes, a Bury attack was held up 2 metres short, but when the ball popped out, Josh Banwell was first on the scene to pick up and power over, Xavier Jacques again converting.
Bowden then produced their strongest period of the half, and with Bury trying to run the ball from defence, a desperate loose pass went straight to the Bowden attacker who walked the ball in from just 5 metres out.

Bury put pressure on the Bowden defence direct from the restart, and when the clearance kick from Bowden was fielded on the halfway line by Alex Bolton there was not obvious danger, but an electrifying run down the left wing produced a score in the corner, Xavier Jacques again converting.
Half time score: Bowden 7 – Bury 21.
Bowden started the second half strongly, and the Bury defence was opened up from 10 metres out with alarming ease to bring the home team back in touch.

Bury pressed well, with Ben Lancashire and Jordan Dyer featuring strongly. Bury re-established a 14 point gap on 29 minutes when a lineout win 10 metres out on the left hand side resulted in a succession of quick passes enabling Alex Bolton to score in the right hand corner, Xavier Jacques converting.

4 minutes later, Bury made sure of the points when Josh Banwell ripped the ball from the back of an excellent rolling maul and found the gap from 8 metres out, Liam Strange converting.

Another excellent team display, especially in the scrum where the early dominance of Bowden was nullified by a strong collective display, and in defence where the tackle count was again impressive. Man of the match went to Josh Banwell for his defensive play and his ability to be first to the tackle on seemingly every occasion!

Final Score: Bowden 14 – Bury 35.
