A Disappointing dat for Bury RUFC 11s

The 18 players all arrived on time and after a short warm up were due to start their first game at 11.20.
The team were out on the pitch ready to start when it was discovered that Sedgley Park hadn't turned up. This went in the scorebook as a 15-0 win, but turned out to be the only "win" of the day.
The first real game was against Waterloo. Bury had the ball throughout the first half and after 3 minutes Jacob ran round the defence to score the first try of the day. Continued pressure for the rest of the half was met with stout defence by Waterloo and so at Half Time, Bury led one try to nil.
The second half was the opposite. Waterloo had both possession and territory throughout the half but very good defence, including notably some good tackles by Cameron ST kept them out.
Unfortunately the last play of the game proved too much and Waterloo were awarded a somewhat controversial try. Game ended one try each.
The second game was against Harrogate. Bury again took the lead through a try from Wayne. Harrogate hit back immediately scoring two tries with long runs down the left wing before half time. Bury struggled to see much of the ball in the second half and a third try gave Harrogate a victory by three tries to one.
The next game was against the hosts, the Vale of Lune. Unfortunately in a continuation of the second half of the previous game we didn't see much of the ball and only a late consolation try by Declan following a strong run brought the score back to 1-3.
Following our close run game against Blackburn last week we were hopeful of a win when we played them again in the final game of the day. Unfortunately with Calum, Joe and Charlie having made visits to the First Aid tent and with plenty of other sore bodies together with the disappointment of the earlier games, all went to make this final game too big a hurdle.
Right on half time Declan scored his second try of the day to bring us back to 2-1 down. Following a third Blackburn try, Jordan powered over to get us back to 2-3 but Blackburn scored again to make the final score 2-4.

All in all a disappointing day. Lots of mistakes under the pressure imposed by the more powerful opposition. Everyone tried really hard and will have learned lots ready to put into place in the remaining two games of the season, and the other two tournaments.
We have certainly not become a poor team overnight and some good tackling, running and passing showed plenty of hope. Absolutely no-one let the team down and everyone did their bit. More games against senior opposition will help to give this team the edge that they need and there is no need to go into the next tournament fearing anyone.

Thanks to Charlotte and the team at Vale of Lune for hosting the event.

Thanks to Wayne for assisting Rob and Deon
